About Jext

Jext is a commonly used adrenaline injector for conditions like severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. Such injectors are often called adrenaline auto injectors and contain the hormone adrenaline as a tartrate. The primary function of a single dose of adrenaline, stimulates heartbeat and speed up your pulse. The adrenaline auto injector combats anaphylaxis and treats severe allergic reactions.

Why choose Jext?

Anaphylactic shock caused by a serious allergic reaction can be life threatening. When suffering from anaphylaxis a dose of adrenaline is required immediately to calm the life threatening symptoms. That is why having a Jext auto injector to hand is very crucial. The Jext pens are easy to use, and anyone can administer them for you.

Difference between EpiPen and Jext

Although both Adrenaline auto injectors (epinephrine) come in the same doses and their purpose are identical, their mechanism is slightly different. The EpiPen has a spring-loaded concealed needle that delivers a single measured dose when the pen is jabbed against the outer thigh muscle. EpiPen's patent 'click' mechanism indicates when the injection has started. Jext auto injector, on the other hand, is a single-use auto injector which has a locking needle shield designed to protect against accidental needle stick injury, activated once the injection has been administered.

How does the Jext work?

The Jext adrenaline auto injectors work by releasing a hormone known as epinephrine (adrenaline) into the body.

When exposed to a severe allergen, your body will undergo stress and you may have difficulty breathing. Your airways will begin to close up, your blood vessels will be dilated, blood flow to the heart will decrease, and you may go into anaphylactic shock. The Jext pen will work to reverse this. The adrenaline will stimulate the flow of the blood to the heart to increase.

The heart and lungs contain the beta receptors. When they are stimulated, your airways begin to clear up. The choking sensation subsides, and it becomes easier to breathe. During an anaphylactic episode, your organs do not receive the proper flow of blood. But this problem is quickly solved when the alpha and beta receptors are in action. The heart and lungs receive adequate blood. The appearance of a rash or hives also goes down.

Jext alternatives

Adrenaline auto injector is an essential medicine that helps stop a severe allergic reaction to treat allergic emergencies. There are various available brands of adrenaline auto injectors; however, the most commonly used ones are EpiPen and Emerade.

While all adrenaline auto injectors contain the same active ingredient, they differ according to how they are used. Therefore, each adrenaline auto injector is used in a slightly different way. However, none of them are complicated to use.

Directions

Jext dosage instructions

The Jext pen dose varies according to body weight. The usual dose for individuals who weigh 15kgs to 30kgs is 150mcg. For those weighing above 30 kg, a dose of 300mcg is sufficient. However, your doctor may need to adjust the dosage according to the severity of your allergies. Therefore, you should always consult a doctor before purchasing the Jext pens. In case of a severe allergic reaction, there can be a need to administer 2 Jext adrenaline auto injectors. So, keeping 2 Jext pens for allergic emergencies is always advised.

How to use Jext pen?

The Jext adrenaline auto injectors should only be administered on the outer thigh muscle and used as soon as you come in contact with the allergen. To treat anaphylaxis use the following steps:

  1. First, remove the substance that induced your allergic reaction from the body and clean the surface.
  2. Then, remove the yellow cap and place the black tip of the Jext adrenaline auto with your dominant hand at a 90 degrees angle at your outer thigh muscle.
  3. Then press the black tip, releasing the adrenaline into your body. You have to keep this position maintained for about 10-15 seconds.
  4. After removing the Jext auto injector, massage the injection area for 10 seconds.

Sometimes, in a potentially life threatening reaction, a single dose of adrenaline is not enough and you may require 2 Jext adrenaline auto injectors. For example, the first injection might not reverse the side effects if you've been exposed to many allergens or for too long. When this happens, you should wait 10-15 minutes before using the second injection in the same way.

Cautions

Side effects

Like other injectable substances, Jext has numerous side effects as well. These side effects may not impact everyone who use Jext. However, if they affect you, you should contact a physician and discontinue use until they give you the go-ahead.

Some of the common side effects that you can expect to see within 5-10 minutes of injecting the Jext include:

  • Dizziness
  • Light-headedness
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Weakness
  • High blood pressure
  • Rapid pulse rate
  • Anxiety
  • Hallucinations
  • Tremors

If you accidentally inject the Jext pen without an allergic recreation, you might experience an increase in your pulse rate. In such a case, you should contact a doctor immediately.

Although the Jext pens are safe to administer, you must be cautious with a few conditions. For instance, patients with cardiovascular diseases like atherosclerosis, cardiac arrhythmia, hypertension, and obstructive cardiomyopathy may see a different range of side effects from the Jext. Thus, it would help if you did not use it until your doctor has given you the go-ahead that it is safe for you.

You should also inform your doctor if you are on any other medication. Adrenaline may interact with other medications and cause serious effects. Let your doctor know if you are taking any of the following kinds of medication:

  • Antidepressants
  • Medication against Parkinson's disease
  • Medication for breathing problems
  • Medications for thyroid issues
  • Alpha and beta-blocking medications (since these are the central receptors targeted by the Jext pen)
  • Anti-allergy medications

These are some medications that adrenaline may not exhibit the best reactions. You should let your doctor know beforehand if you are using them. Secondly, avoid alcohol after you use Jext since alcohol exacerbates the impact of adrenaline.

Can you use a Jext pen when pregnant?

Research shows no harmful effects of the Jext 300mcg on your unborn baby. The anaphylactic reaction, however, is hazardous for your unborn baby. It can lead to a loss of oxygen to the baby, stunting their growth and may even lead to permanent damage to motor functions. That is why doctors recommend using the Jext pen immediately when experiencing allergic emergencies.

You can also use the medication for emergency treatment if you are breastfeeding.

You must inform your GP if you are pregnant or currently breastfeeding when they recommend an adrenaline auto injector. If you require a different Jext dosage than the recommended dose, your doctor will adjust it accordingly.

Always read the patient information leaflet before starting your treatment. The patient information can be found here
