Directions

How to use Betnovate Lotion

  • Apply Betnovate Lotion once or twice a day, as directed by your doctor. This may be reduced as your skin begins to get better.
  • This lotion is for external use on your skin only.
  • Gently wash and dry the affected area of skin before applying the lotion.
  • Use a small amount of Betnovate Lotion and apply it evenly to the affected area.
  • Rub the lotion in gently until it is absorbed into the skin.
  • Wash your hands after use to avoid getting the lotion on other areas of your body or your face.
  • If your skin problem does not improve in 2 to 4 weeks, talk to your doctor.
  • Important: This product is flammable. Keep the lotion away from open flames and heat sources.

Cautions

Betnovate Lotion side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Burning, pain
  • irritation or itching

Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):

  • Increased risk of skin infections
  • Allergic skin reactions (such as redness, rash, or itchy bumps)
  • Thinning or dryness of the skin
  • Stretch marks
  • Visible blood vessels under the skin
  • Changes in skin color
  • Increased or reduced hair growth, or hair loss
  • Weight gain or a rounder face
  • Slow growth or delayed weight gain in children
  • Weak or brittle bones (osteoporosis)
  • Eye problems such as cataracts or increased eye pressure (glaucoma)
  • Low levels of cortisol (a natural hormone) in the blood
  • increased blood sugar levels or sugar in the urine
  • High blood pressure

Betnovate Lotion warnings

Do not use Betnovate:

  • If you are allergic to betamethasone valerate or any of the other ingredients listed in the Betnovate.
  • On children under 1 year of age.
  • On skin conditions that could worsen with steroid use, such as acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, Infected skin, Itchy skin that is not inflamed.

If any of these apply to you, do not use Betnovate. Speak to your doctor for advice.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Betnovate if:

  • You’ve had an allergic reaction to another steroid treatment.
  • You’re using the lotion under bandages, dressings, or nappies.
  • You have psoriasis, your doctor may need to monitor you more closely.
  • You’re treating a chronic leg ulcer.
  • You’re applying it to large areas, broken skin, or skin folds.
  • You’re using it near the eyes or eyelids.
  • You have a skin infection that isn’t being treated.
  • You’re applying it to the face or using it on children, whose skin may absorb more.

Other medicines and Betnovate

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any
other medicine, especially if you are taking ritonavir and itraconazole medications.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, planning to become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine to ensure it’s safe for you and your baby.
