How should I take it?

Cautions
Side effects
Lots of people take Crestor. It’s safe and effective, but it does come with the risk of side effects, including:
-
muscle pain and weakness
-
stomach problems
-
feeling confused or forgetful
-
constipation
-
feeling sick
More severe side effects, like liver problems and diabetes, are less common but risky. If you have any side effects, you must speak to your doctor immediately to work out what to do. Crestor can be great for people with high cholesterol, but we must weigh the possible risks against the benefits before we start taking it.
Other warnings to look out for
-
Crestor may not go well with other things you’re taking. Tell your doctor about any medicine or products you’re on, just to be sure.
-
Avoid grapefruit while taking Crestor. There’s a chance it will react badly.
-
Too much alcohol can increase the risk of liver problems. It can also stop Crestor working. It’s a good idea to drink less while taking it.
-
Crestor may slightly increase blood sugar levels. If you’ve got diabetes or are at risk of getting it, your doctor may want to keep an eye on things.
-
If you have kidney problems, your doctor may need to change the amount of Crestor you’re taking. Tell them if you have a history of kidney disease.
-
Some people may have an allergic reaction to Crestor. This is very rare. If you do get signs of this, such as a rash, hives, swelling or trouble breathing, call an ambulance right away.
Always read the patient information leaflet before starting your treatment. The patient information can be found here.
